If you are setting up a new email account on a computer, and you try to log in unsuccessfully 5 or more times, you may cause yourself to be blocked from our mail server. We have put in place blocking mechanisms which stop “brute force attacks” from spammers trying to guess account names and passwords on our server. If our server detects more than 4 failures in less than one minute’s time, your IP address will be blocked. If you are in an office, this can cause everyone in the office to also be blocked because most offices use Network Address Translation (NAT) which makes all of the computers in the your office look like they are coming from the same IP address.

The block will automatically be lifted in one hour, but if you need it removed immediately, please contact one of our technicians at 877-886-6868 (you will be unable to email, so just call). We can help you with the account you are having trouble with and we will be able to manually lift the block so that everyone can send and/or receive their email again.

We do apologize for any trouble this may cause. We feel these systems were needed because of the increase in attacks we have seen on our mail server and we want to protect your data as much as possible and we also want to help stop spammers in any way we can.

Google is making strides in the smartphone marketplace and the Android based devices are becoming very common.

Android-based smartphones and devices include two email clients, one for Gmail and one for other types of email servers including Microsoft Exchange, IMAP and POP3. The following guide will show you how to set up the built-in email application to access an IMAP or POP3 (we support both)email server for incoming email and an SMTP server for outbound email. The setup for both IMAP and POP3 is the same so for the purposes of this guide, we will use POP3. Please note that there are *MANY* different Android devices out now, so your screen may be slightly different. If you are unable to follow this guide and need further assistance, please call our technical support at 256-547-6817 or 877-886-6868.

Tap the upward pointing arrow to get to the app menu (figure 1)

Tap on the Email icon (figure 2)

The Domain Name System (DNS) is the “phone book” of the internet. Computers don’t understand web addresses like http://www.netsolinc.com. They understand IP addresses. In the same way that you use a phone book to retrieve a phone number by a person’s name, DNS changes web addresses into IP addresses. For instance, http://www.netsolinc.com gets changed to http://74.252.14.254.

The speed of your internet experience can be greatly influenced by DNS. If your computer is taking a long time to look up names, then sites will load slower. Most pages will reference many addresses, and each of those addresses will need to be checked with DNS. If DNS is slow, then each of those checks contributes to a slower page load. For years, we at Network Solutions, Inc. have been utilizing a free service called OpenDNS. OpenDNS is a company which provides free, fast, and reliable DNS. They have some premium offerings as well, which can let you customize your internet experience. The addresses of their servers are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. All you have to do to take advantage of their speed and reliability is use those numbers for your DNS servers.

Since the Domain Name System is basically your link to finding sites on the internet, it can also be used to filter bad sites. OpenDNS also offers a free service call Family Shield. To utilize this service, all you do is use 208.67.222.123 and 208.67.220.123 as your DNS servers. Using those servers, sites with adult content, anonymizers, and phishing get automatically blocked. Using this service, you can worry a lot less about what content your child is viewing on the internet.

One last recommendation we have is another DNS provider which also makes antivirus software. Sunbelt/Vipre Antivirus DNS focuses on blocking virus and malware sites. It can make your internet surfing a LOT safer. As of today, the service is still beta and it is called ClearCloud. Currently, the IP addresses for their servers are: 74.118.212.1 and 74.118.212.2. You can find more information about it on their forum.

We hope these suggestions can bring better performance and/or a safer internet experience for you and your computer.

When you are going to be away from your email for a while, it can be helpful to have an automated message that replies to people who send you email. This message can tell people that you are not going to be checking your email for a while, and can let people know when you will be back in touch. These instructions will show you how to set up such a message. These messages are also known as autoresponders.

1) Go to our homepage at http://www.netsolinc.com.

2) In the Online Email Center on the right side of the page, click the link that says “Modify Email Account Settings”.

3) You will be taken to a Mail Administration page. The User Account field will automatically have the word “postmaster” in it. Delete that, and replace it with the first part of your email address. For example, if you were going to put a vacation message for support@internetpro.net, you would put support in the blank which previously contained postmaster.

4) In the second blank, labeled Domain Name, you will put the second part of your email address. In our example using support@internetpro.net, internetpro.net would go in this field.

5) Enter your email address password.

6) You will be taken to a page where you can change several settings. About half way down the page, place a check mark next to “Send Vacation Auto-Response”.

7) Fill in the subject of your message (for example, “Out of office from 6/22 – 6/27)

8 ) Fill in the rest of the message in the next blank. You should detail when you will be back and what to do if the issue is an emergency.

9) Hit the “Modify User” button.

10) We recommend that you send yourself an email to test the autoresponse.

That’s it! Don’t forget to remove the message when you get back in town. Just follow the same instructions except that you will remove the check mark next to “Send Vacation Auto-Response”.
