Virus Scanning
Network Solutions, Inc. is proud to be one of the first ISPs
to offer our customers free virus scanning of their email.
For those of you who would like to know more about the
protection we have written this page. Here we will go
over what our protection does and does not cover, how
we scan the email, and what we do when a virus is found.
Our mail server automatically checks the versions and
consistency of the virus database every 30 minutes. It
also performs an update if new virus definitions are available.
We have also set aside a section of our homepage at http://www.internetpro.net which
shows the top 10 most active in the wild. You can click
on the name of the virus for more information about it.
It is important to note that we are only protecting you
against viruses sent in an email. There are other ways
to get viruses. For example, you could load an infected
disk into your computer or it is even possible that a malicious
web page could give you a virus. Also, it is possible to
get a new virus before a scanner is available to detect
it, so it is a good idea to have other means of virus protection
on your computer. But right now, email is the most widely
used method of spreading viruses, and we believe this is
a great benefit to our customers.
All mail going through our mail server is scanned as it
is processed. This means that if you already have a virus
on your computer, you will not be spreading it via email
to your friends or family. If a virus is detected in email
sent by your computer, the server will automatically drop
that message so that the virus does not spread.
Here at Network Solutions, we believe that we should do
everything we can to make our customers' internet experience
a pleasant one. Knowing that your email is protected will
help take some of the worries out of checking your email.
We hope that by scanning your email, we can not only help
protect
your valuable data, but also give you one less thing to
be worried about during the day.
